European Mantis - Gottesanbeterin

Mantis religiosa belongs to the Mantidae family. It is distributed in Southern Europe, but spreading to the North. There are populations in Baden-Württemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate (Germany). Females are larger than males, but males are more active and able to fly, whereas females' bodies are too heavy to enable them to fly. Their coloration may vary from shades of brown to green and even yellow.
