International Inn 3

“SAN FRANCISCO’S MOTEL,” AKA the International Inn, opened in 1956.

It was the first motel to be located next to the San Francisco International Airport. Address: 326 S. Airport Boulevard, South San Francisco, Calif.

The motel architect was Gerald M. McCue of Berkeley. The architect of the restaurant was Mario Gaidano of San Francisco. Landscape architects were Osmundson & Staley. Yep, this was a high profile project. Seiously, just google search these names. A million dollar investment.

At the International Inn, lodgers could “sleep away from city noise and downtown traffic in soundproofed poolside lanai rooms or off intimate patio courtyards planted with tropical lushness.”

Amenities included: heated swimming pool, coffee shop, cocktail lounge, children’s playground, free 21” TV, hi-fi music, thermostatically controlled heat (funny, they don’t mentioning cooling!), and complimentary shuttle WAGON to and from the airport.

If this place isn’t screaming for a boutique makeover, I don’t know what is.
