The Lansdowne Marcus Aurelius
about 140-150 Roman marble, desecrated by early Christians, recovered by the Scottish antique dealer Gavin Hamilton, sold to the British Marquess of Lansdowne, & now in the San Antonio Museum of Art. Marcus is depicted in youthful vigor with the first traces of a beard, draped in a military cloak, and holding a scepter and sword.
