Farne Islands - My Highlight Of 2009

In June 2009 I visited the Farne Islands off the Northumbria coast in the Northeast of England. A small boat takes you from Seahouses to the various Islands and includes an opportunity to land on Inner Farne.

The Farne Islands are home to 1000's of breeding seabirds including Puffin, Artic Tern, Kiitiwake, European Shag and Guillemots.

A walk up the path from the harbour on Inner Farne to the top of the cliff takes you through the nesting area of the Artic Terns, the nests, eggs and chicks are just a few inches away from the path and the proctective parents are never far away and will "dive bomb" you if you stop near the nest too long. At the cliff top, you enter the nesting area for the much loved Puffins.

The Farne Islands is a must visit if you like being close to nature
