Carter, Wyoming

This was the nearest I ever got to Carter, Wyoming. Inspired by a Flickr post from Mark Hemphill I dug into the archive and brought up this from the memorable Big Boy chase on May 6, 2014.

I have processed another, earlier frame but switched off the PC before the Dropbox had a slim chance to synchronize.

Carter is effectively a ghost town with population zero. The UP tracks follow the Muddy creek down from the Altamont/Aspen area until it flows into the Blacks Fork west of Granger. Highway 412 is crossing the meandering creek where the utility pole line meets the road.

I had shot video footage at Leroy but I didn't take Leroy road (a gravel road) to Carter, mostly because I just didn't have a clue it went there (without a co-pilot looking at the DeLorme atlas it can be tricky making decisions). I took US30/Hwy 412 instead until I realized that I had no chance to beat it to the crossing and pulled over. I am glad it worked out better than anticipated. Some traffic violations were included in making this shot possible...
