Doctor Who Series - Across Dimensions P2 (read desc)

Wow! Betcha didn't expect another part so quickly, huh? I promise, this will definitely go better than last time round. So, Let's get on with it. As always, please lemme know what you think :D

Across Dimensions P2

Twin pillars rise out of the sand, their tops peaking out above the thin cloud of dust. They fit this place. Cracked, worn, but perfectly in place. A woman walks back and forth between a control box and a pyramid shaped structure. These things do not fit. They are...not of this planet.

With a grinding wheeze, the Tardis materialised, with what seemed like great effort. "That's odd" the doctor mumbled. This almost never happened. it was like the Tardis was fighting him, like she didn't want to be here. He checked the console, scanning the planet he'd put her down on. Nothing out of the ordinary, and the Tardis he'd been tracking was right outside, just a few yards in front of him. This was it, the moment he'd been mentally preparing himself for. He checked his tie, smoothed back some stray hairs, and set out. Two pillars stood before him, beyond that-

"No" He murmured under his breath. Then louder "No. Not you, why you?" He could recognise that Tardis a mile off. He knew it's owner, he'd had countless run ins with her during his sixth and seventh incarnations. She'd been a scientist, back on Gallifrey. And not one of the good ones. She had been banished, long ago. Did she know? Or was she-

"Oh Doctor, I see you've tracked me here, to this rock" She called out, standing between the pillars. "Believe me, it wasn't intentional" he replied, making no effort to hide his hostility. The Rani was possibly the worst timelord to survive, arguably worse than the Master. But why was she here, with these pillars? No. For once, just once, he didn't want to know. He had hoped to come here to talk, to brew some tea, and have a calm discussion about what had happened to their homeworld. "Look, let's put our differences behind us, just for a minute"

The Rani crossed her arms, adjusting her stance "Fine. Somethings off about you. Even after all this time, I can tell" She scraped her foot in the sand "Is this by chance to do with Gallifrey?"

So she did know. That made things easier, a lot easier. "Yes. It's gone. It was the only way to-"

The Rani looked up at him, her face contorted with rage "Do you think i don't know that!" She was staring at him, right into his soul it felt like. "I was there Doctor. I know exactly what happened. I'd been a prisoner there for over 70 years, do you really think I missed it?"

"Prisoner...I don't understand. I thought-"

"That the time war was over, that the fighting was so bad, it was the 'merciful' thing to do" She glared at him, tears starting to form in the corners of her eyes.

"You have no idea what happened there, yet here you are, in your stupid blue box, trying to, what? Console me? Offer me closure? Do you have any idea what was happening? Do you?"

The Doctor was speechless. "What happened to you Ushas"

She turned around, going back to her work "Fine, I'll make it brief, I'm busy. Once the fighting was over, the daleks moved in" She sighed " I was on Gallifrey because they needed me. The high council decided I was needed to help them end the war once and for all. I was too late. As soon as I arrived, i was captured, taken to an internment camp and" Her voice caught in her throat. "Experimented on, we all were. I don't know how many lives they took, over and over again. This is my last one, or good as"

"I'm...I'm so sorry that happened to you, truly I am. But why are you here? Why come to this rock? I know you, I know how you think. You're here for a reason, and I bet" he kicked one of the pillars with his foot "it has something to do with these.

She smirked. Of course he'd sus it out. "Do you know what these are Doctor?" He shook his head "This whole set-up, is a dimension gate. I thought they were a myth, but here we are."

"But why are you-" the Doctor started before cutting himself off. "No. No, you can't."

She plugged a wire into one of the pillars, her Tardis letting out a noise. "The way I see it, I can. The timelords were once in charge of access to parallel dimensions, but now, I am. There are hundreds of thousands of dimensions out there Doctor, hundreds of thousands of Gallifrey's" she started towards her Tardis, stepping inside. She leant out "And amongst them, I will find a solution. I will not die here, Doctor. I will not let this body be my last" With a laugh, she slammed the doors shut, her Tardis humming to life. The Doctor started to rush forwards, but was thwarted by bolts of lightning, emanating from the gate, and striking the Ranis Tardis. It was gone. He rushed forward, trying to stop it, but too late. 'I have to-'

He awoke to find himself lying in the sand, a man a few feet from him, rubbing his head.

"You know, you really ought to watch where you're going"
