Overlords-verse: Flash I
Nearly done with these guys now. Personally, I'm not a great fan of the helmet. Normally, it'd look good, but it looks a little too futuristic for the time this Flash was around in. And I nicked him from another thing, but we'll ignore that. Probably should have used a miners helmet, but oh well. As always, lemme know what you think :D
Flash I
A college student with a bright future, Jay Garrick was going to make something of himself. He'd studied hard, and was determined to make it. This was until a stupid mistake almost cost him his life. While taking a smoke break in the laboratory he had been working in, Garrick inhaled heavy water vapours, which transformed his body chemistry in many ways. He could run at incredibly fast speeds, and heal at inhuman speeds. He knew he had to use his new powers to help people, knowing he could do more with his new powers than he ever could as a scientist.
So he donned a red and blue suit, and began his career as the Flash. Using his scientific knowledge, he was able to build a helmet to shield himself from the extreme forces exerted on his body whilst running at superspeed. He began his crimefighting career as the Flash in 1938, a year before the outbreak of World War 2. When war broke, Jay chose not to sign up for the army. As a scientist, it was not necessary. Instead he took up the role of the Flash almost full time, keeping America running. From basic things like keeping the postal service running, to running errands for various state governments.
Once the war was over, Jay cut down on his time as the Flash, so that he could spend more time with his wife, Joan. However, he had become somewhat of a national hero, and was approached by Superman, Wonder woman and Captain Marvel in 1953. They asked him to join a new superhero team, the Justice Society of America. Naturally, Jay was thrilled to be serving the nation alongside the Super-trinity. Alongside other super powered beings, Jay continued his fight against crime, and the evils of the world. However, there was a shock coming.
After the murder of Kent Nelson, the first Doctor fate, the league began to Splinter. In 1962, Jay Garrick retired. He was getting older, and wanted to spend his twilight years with his wife Joan.
But this retirement was brought to a swift end when in 1979, young Barry Allen was involved in an accident that through some kind of cosmic coincidence, gave him the same powers Jay had. Confused by these new powers, Barry found Jay, and begged him to help him master his powers, and become the second Flash. Although originally against the idea, Jay came round and helped Barry to master the speedforce. In 1984, Barry was ready to take up the mantle of the Flash. Jay was satisfied at the job he had done, and went back to retirement. He passed away in 1989, peacefully, at his home on the outskirts of Central city, at the age of 73. Although he had access to Luthor-chem life extenders, he always refused. When asked why, he responded with "God put us on this Earth, and it's not up to us to keep him waiting"
