Doctor who Series: Episode 2 - Compatibility issues P1

"Right then" the Doctor said, pulling a lever. "That's the Tardis stabilised. I need to change" He said, brushing dust off his jacket.

Jackie walked around the console to stop him but he was too quick. He was gone, through a sliding door. "What do we do now?" Frank asked.

The door opened again and the Doctor leant in. "Just a few rules before I leave you. Rule 1: Do not, under any circumstances, wander off. The Tardis is like a maze and I don't want to lose either of you" Jackie and Frank exchanged glances. "Is he serious" Jackie mouthed.

"Rule 2" the Doctor continued. "Do. Not. Touch. That means the console, the doors, the monitor, and" he paused for dramatic effect "My jelly babies." He waggled his finger before heading back off to God knows where.

'S'been a while since I've done that' The Doctor thought smiling. Now, on to the matter at hand: Where was the wardrobe? He'd had to do some cleaning and purging of Tardis rooms because, in his words, 'It took too long to get to places'. He strode through the seemingly endless corridors, doubling back on himself a few times. "Ha ha!" he exclaimed as he turned a corner, right into the wardrobe.

"That's better" he muttered, straightening his tie. "A beard huh?" he said, stroking his newly discovered beard "Haven't had one of those since..." He trailed off, memories flooding his head. War. Endless war. Images of Daleks, Timelords, all dying. Endless death. A voice entered his mind. "You did the best you could" reassured a strangely familiar voice. Of course! His previous self, the eighth self, still clinging on. It'd be gone soon. That old personality of his. Thankfully. He simply couldn't bear to have to live with that sense of regret. Not again.

He shook his head, shaking himself out of it. 'Don't linger on your past' he thought. That was the strongest part of his psyche. The part most ingrained into his head. Don't think of what you could have or should have done. The past is the past. Despite his grievances with the Timelords, there was one of their rules he never, ever, broke. Under any circumstances. No matter how dire.

He took a step back, inspecting his new outfit in the mirror. Very dapper. He smiled, before heading back to the console room.
