This is a Sunset

This classic image was taken this past break over the weekend at Camp Lanier Campground in surf city. It was looking out over the inter coastal waterway which is surrounded by plenty of organisms that require sunlight. There are so many ecological principles that follow the rise and fall of the sun such as seasons and climate change. The earths tilt affects the amount of sunlight that reaches the earth causing different temperatures at different times of the year. More importantly some places hardly ever see the sunset because it is dark for most of the year. In these region the presence of the sun is so little that a lot of plants have adapted to rarely see the light such as the White Arctic Bell Heather. Sometimes we can take for granted the beautiful here on the coast of North Carolina and not even realize how it influences our every day lives.
