Stressed Out
This photo was taken in Myrtle Beach, SC at Broadway on the Beach. They have a pond with a large bring that goes across and gumball like machines that allow you to put fifty cents in for a hand full of fish food to feed the fish. The fish then viciously attack for the food, piling up and almost carrying other large fish. Apparently the pond was stocked with Carp, Catfish, and Japanese Carp quite a few years ago. The ecological example here could be a lot of things but I would like to focus on the idea of crowding and the affect that it has on this community. There are multiple different types of species here but I would like to focus on the fish and how there is one main concentrated source of resources and how a large majority of the fish know where it is and stay there. The other example is how all of the fish attack for the food. This is an example of scramble competition though because there is enough of the resource to go around but the fish still compete.
