Footprints in the Snow (Calum S.)
My name is Calum and I am in 7th grade. One fact about myself is that my favorite sport is soccer. I took a photo of footprints leading up to multiple trash cans, and I focused on the issue of littering. Many animals are hurt each year and the environment is damaged due to littering. Because of this, I do not litter knowing that if I do, I will cause something that I don’t want to happen. My picture is a protest against littering. For example, if trash gets in water, the water gets contaminated. Once the water evaporates, the water that was contaminated is in the air. This is bad for our breathing as well as the breathing of animals. This is why others should stop littering as well. We all know that littering is bad, but why do we still do it? In terms of composition, I focused on the angle that I took the photo from. If I shot the photo from the wrong angle, the footprints leading up to the barrels of trash would not be seen. I like my photo because it implies that people should stop littering but also implies that if litter is seen, it should be picked up rather than just left on the ground. In my community, when I see litter, I now will remember to pick it up, rather than just leave it on the ground and walk away. There is a non-profit organization called “Keep America Beautiful”. Here, you are able to volunteer, and learn how to keep your community clean and beautiful. I hope to one day take part in this.
