Stepping Over Steptoe

Steptoe Creek on the Nevada Northern is pretty typical of high desert streams. One day could very well be a full stream, the next day, a clay mudhole.

 

Nevada Northern 40 drags a short goods train out of Ely--the railroad's freight engines, 2-8-0s 89 and 93, were in the shop, forcing the 4-6-0 to do the dirty work.
