To the Masters
For a while, the covered wagons were down for service, so it was assumed that GP38s would handle the call whenever it came. But the A-B-B-A set was put thru a test run the previous week, and fingers were crossed.
After a week of waiting, word got out that a 955 was on Altoona's board for 0500. That only meant one thing: The Office Car Special was leaving, and going west before heading to The Masters. They may be 38-2s under the hood now, but they still sound amazing dragging a 19 car OCS up Horseshoe Curve.
Photo taken inside the visitors center grounds outside business hours with the permission of the Altoona Railroader's Memorial Museum, where I am a volunteer.
