Imagine the Smell of Brake Shoes

This is the west face of the East Broad Top Railroad's Sidling Hill tunnel. The EBT ran empties up the hill (south), and loads down the grade (north), so trains bound for Mount Union would have been braking pretty hard through here. The tunnel, like most of the railroad, last saw traffic in April of 1956.
