George

This eagle was rescued from an island in Shasta Lake, north of Redding, California on July 4th, 2014. He was nicknamed George Washington at the vet's office. He had a dislocated elbow which didn't heal properly, as can be seen in this trail camera photo from Oct. 2014. George loved his fish, which Darrah Springs State Fish Hatchery near Manton kept him supplied with. He also loved his early morning sunbath as the sun came though the high window in his aviary. Sadly, he had to be euthanized because the elbow was getting worse. The vets at UC Davis could not do any surgery that would have helped him; he would have been in constant pain.
