Spectacular Northern Sunset
Taken on May 6, 2022 at 10:30 pm at Range Lake, in Yellowknife NWT Canada, in the Center of a residential area. There is a gas station directly behind me, homes off in the distance to the left and buildings peeking over the tree line to the right. Framed properly to avoid the structures, it gives the illusion of a wilderness location, while still in the heart of the city. Since it is still early spring here, if you look off in the distance, the lake is still partly covered with a layer of ice that is slowly melting as spring gives way. I opened the aperture wide opened in this one, as was looking to capture the foreground in detail with a bit of a dreamy look in the background - not sure I actually accomplished what I was looking for, but it seemed to work. Was filling with gas as I noticed the spectacular sunset overhead, grabbed my camera and made the best of the situation, considering I was still inside town limits. Sunset was at 10 pm so this is what people often call the second sunset that occurs about 30 minutes after sunset, as the sun dips below the horizon, lighting up the cloud cover overhead for about 10 minutes.
