Sophia Morrison

Sophia Morrison, Manx cultural activist, in a photograph published in the final edition of the journal, Mannin (No.9), taken in Morrison's youth.

Sophia Morrison is amongst the most important of all figures in Manx cultural history, steering the Isle of Man back to a sense of Manxness, at one of its most difficult points in history.

Manx language, music, song, folklore, poetry, theatre, history, archaeology, politics and more - hardly an aspect of Manx identity does not bear her mark, from her too-short active time from the 1890s through to the 1910s, through to the present day.

Her contributions to the culture of the Isle of Man were immense, and Manx culture & identity would be almost unrecognisable today were it not for her.
