Port Soderick hotel with veranda
Port Soderick hotel showing veranda now built and Clarke's Cafe before demolition. There were stalls to the left of the hotel which had rifle shooting, throwing mops at buckets and selling snacks. The back of the hotel was accommodation for female staff, the men stayed in the bungalow opposite the stalls. Summer kitchens were built at the back and the winter kitchen was in the basement. Originally the place was lit by oil lamps until Mr Thomas Forrester started making his own gas and lighting Port Soderick that way, he made gas every Saturday morning and Ann and her brother were not allowed to go out the back because of the smell.
