Amy Johnson's tree in Glen Helen, Isle of Man
In April 1933, only three years after her famous solo flight from Britain to Australia, Amy Johnson visited the Isle of Man. She flew her own plane from England (as her husband - Jim Mollinson - flew his) and landed on the 15th of April, initially at Ramsey and then at Ronaldsway.
On the 17th of April the couple were in Glen Helen for a meal at the Glen Helen Hotel organised by the Peveril Motorcycle Club. After the lunch, Amy Johnson planted a tree in the glen.
The tree is still growing well today, and the sign remains commemorating the occasion.
