William Cashen, Manx Folklore author (1838–1912)
William Cashen was a Peel fisherman and then custodian of Peel Castle. He was an important figure in the Manx cultural revival through his involvement in the Manx Language Society through the influence of Sophia Morrison in the decade or so before his death.
It was Sophia Morrison who edited and released "William Cashen's Manx Folk-lore" shortly after his death in 1912.
It is from this edition that this picture was taken.
