M. L. Wood gravestone, Onchan cemetery

The gravestone of M. L. Wood, "Mother of music in Manxland."

As well as being a founder of the Guild, she was also of great importance to the beginning of the re-popularisation of traditional Manx music at the end of the 19th Century, and she was an inspiring teacher and advocate of musical education in the Isle of Man.
