The Galley Slave
Boxing Day 1979
This is Googie as I remember her, with Hope Leslie at John and Audrey's traditional Boxing Day party at Kingsbere Crescent in 1979.
Googie died on 25 August 1981. Audrey told us:
"She went to bed one night and died in her sleep, a wonderful way to go but a shock for us. It was said she was 'ready to go'. Who knows? She was lonely, yes. She didn't invite people to the house - we weren't asked for a meal for years. But in spite of her attachment to the house, the home, Kathleen and I felt that her spirit had left it, had gone. We hope to be with Grandad."
