Age: 110-120 million years ago
Period: Lower cretaceous
Ammonites first appeared 240 million years ago, descending from straight-shelled cephalopods.
They were predators and mollusks that resembled squid. The last of them disappeared sixty-five million light years ago at the end of the Cretaceous.
