Autralia's largest rock

Contrary to expectation, Uluru (Ayer Rock) is not Australia's largest rock. That honor goes to Mt Augustus, pictured above.
Mt Augustus is up to two and half times bigger than Uluru, covers 4,700 hectare and is 717 meters at its peak. It is an ancient rock known as an ''ínselberg", that is, an island mountain rising above the alluvial plain. The rock supports a variety of vegetation species, as well as birds and other wildlife.
