Weka

Like the Takahe, the Weka is a flightless rail. They are fairly common, and I saw them hanging around a number of campgrounds, looking for scraps and handouts. They sometimes eat the eggs and chicks of other birds. This one was in the parking lot of one of the motels where I stayed.
