Pukeko

Pukeko are very common and look a lot like Takahe. Takahe can't fly, but Pukeko can. Takahe have larger bodies and a larger red bill. They have a green back, while the Pukeko's back is dark. Pukeko are communal nesters. When a female Pukeko sits on eggs or cares for young, she does not know which ones are hers. The strategy must be working, because there are a lot of Pukeko.
