Michelangelo's David
Michelangelo's David was originally supposed to be on the roof of the Duomo in Florence. Michelangelo tried to account for this in the proportions of some of David's body parts. The head and hands look unusually large, but they would not have looked out of proportion were the statue on a high roof. The statue was instead placed in the Piazza della Signoria, which is outside the Uffizi Gallery. It stayed there from 1504 to 1873, when it was moved indoors to the Galleria dell’Accademia.
