Princess Diana Memorial

This statue, covered with gold leaf, is based on the torch of the Statue of Liberty. It was erected to commemorate American-French friendship (which seems to be absent in many sectors of America) and is now an unofficial memorial for Princess Diana. The statue was offered to Paris in 1989 by the International Herald Tribune newspaper, who two years earlier celebrated the hundredth anniversary of printing its English language edition in Paris.
