Fig Leaf

The only fig leaf I saw while I was in Italy was on a statue of an armless woman outside the Palazzo Vecchio. The figure depicted has plants growing on her legs. Because this is such a public place, I doubt the fig leaf was put there as a joke. Some of the nearby statues have scenes with rape, decapitation, and other types of violence, so I don't know why a plant-covered woman without arms would cause concern.
