Dead as a Dodo
A model of a Dodo was at the Natural History Museum in Paris. Dodos were related to pigeons, and they lived on the island of Mauritius where they had no predators. The first recorded sighting by Westerners was in 1598. By 1662, they were thought to be extinct. A lot of environmental focus has been placed on disappearing rainforests, which is indeed a serious problem. But with regard to extinction, the problems on islands are much greater.
