Emilia Romagna Food Sign
I was invited to Bologna by my friends Monica (left) and Teresa (right), whom I met on a ship in the Galapagos in 2013. This photo shows them standing in front of a map of Emilia Romagna. The region, which is north of Tuscany, is famous for many types of food, which are shown on the map. Monica and Teresa made sure I ate very well during my three-day stay. I did not eat a single dinner in a restaurant. While we were walking around the city the day I arrived, we went to a pasta store and bought tortellini and tagliatelle, both of which are types of pasta from Emilia-Romagna. We ate them as two separate courses, served in the traditional manner – the tortellini in broth and the tagliatelle with sauce. Tagliatelle is like fettuccini and comes from a word that means to cut. On another night, I ate tortelloni, which is a little bigger than tortellini.
