Losing His Head

The statues in front of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris include one of Saint Denis, who is holding his detached head. He was decapitated by the Romans in Paris, after which, according to legend, he picked up his head and walked about 4 miles north before dying. The place where he is said to have died is a section of Paris that has been named after him.
