White-lined Tanager

Male White-lined Tanagers are almost all black except for a thin white line on the wing which may or may not be visible when the bird is not flying. The same is true for the similar White-shouldered Tanager, whose wings show more white when the bird is flying. The females of the two species look different from the males, and if the tanagers are traveling in pairs, some guides use the female to make an ID. Almost all of the White-lined Tanagers I saw on the trip were in male-female pairs.
