Passerini's Tanagers
The Passerini's Tanager was the most common tanager species I saw in Costa RIca. It used to be called the Scarlet-rumped Tanager before being split. The male and the female look totally different. The female is yellow-olive with a gray head. The species is in an order called Passeriformes, which includes the passerines, or perching birds. The order is named after the genus of the House Sparrow, which is Passer, and the similarity of Passerini with passerine is merely a coincidence.
