Turkey Vultures

A group of Turkey Vultures was on the ground near the lake at CATIE. They appeared to be eating nuts from a nearby palm. In Africa, I saw a species called the Palm-nut Vulture who does the same thing, even though it is in a different family from the American vultures. You can see the gray on the neck of the vulture on the right. That indicates that it is part of the race native to Costa Rica. The migratory Turkey Vultures do not have gray on their neck.
