Sunbittern
Sunbitterns are the only bird in their family and are not related to bitterns and herons. They are generally shy, but I had long looks at a lot of them on this trip. This one was vocalizing, and you can see its tongue. The call is a high-pitched plaintive wail, and one morning I heard it for a couple of hours while walking along the Rio Tuis.
