Rufous-vented Ground-Cuckoo
The Rufous-vented Ground-Cuckoo is one of the species I most wanted to see on this trip. I saw one well at Canopy Adventure, which is a short distance up the road from Canopy Lodge. The bird was cooperative and stood in the same place for awhile. It is almost 20 inches long and more colorful than it appears in the field guide. It stood on a low branch, and I could see its big feet and long toes. A lot of marauding army ants were in the area where we were standing to view the bird.
