Red-breasted Meadowlark
Meadowlarks are in the same family as the New World Blackbirds, and the Red-breasted Meadowlark used to be called the Red-breasted Blackbird. It is closely related to the Red-winged Blackbirds I see in Virginia. Its scientific species name is militaris, because someone apparently thought the plumage made the bird look like the male was wearing a soldier's uniform.
