Clay-colored Thrush
This Clay-colored Thrush, who used to be called the Clay-colored Robin, was at the feeders at Rancho Naturalista. It is the national bird of Costa RIca. One might wonder why this bird was chosen when there are so many colorful bird species in the country. I think it is better for countries to choose a species whom most everyone knows and can see and hear regularly rather than a showier species who is seldom encountered. I would not be opposed to replacing the Bald Eagle as America's national bird with the American Robin. Many Costa RIcans think of this species as a rain bird, because it sings at the beginning of the rainy reason. It sounds like an American Robin, who is in the same genus.
