Giant Kingfisher

The Giant Kingfisher is the largest kingfisher in the world. At Lake Mburo, we got a close look at this one. It is a beautiful bird, but the name “Giant” is a bit of an overstatement, just as with the Giant Nuthatch I saw in Thailand. It is certainly big at 17 inches. It stayed very still as we approached, acting as if our boat were not there. I saw it fly after we had moved on.
