Typewriter Eraser

The sculptor Claes Oldenburg has created a great deal of public art showing common items of bygone days. His giant typewriter eraser is in the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden in Washington, DC. I once took the niece of a friend to see it. She was about a generation younger than me, and she had no idea what it was supposed to represent.
