Torso of the Destroyed City

The Zadkine Museum in Paris displays the work of the 20th century Russian sculptor Ossip Zadkine. It is located not far from the Jardin du Luxembourg. One of the works in the garden is his sculpture "Torso of the Destroyed City", cast in 1963. The original was given to the city of Rotterdam to pay homage to the victims of the Second World War. The Nazis heavily bombed Rotterdam and destroyed large portions of the city. Zadkine's sculpture expresses the horror of the bombings.
