Hudsonian Godwit
One of my jinx birds had long been the Hudsonian Godwit. They are birds found occasionally on the mid-Atlantic coast, but rarely if ever inland. I finally saw one who showed up along the Potomac in Alexandria, Virginia. The bird usually stayed about 150 yards from the shore. But while I was standing on a bridge on the shoreline one day, the godwit landed about 20 yards away. I snapped a few photos. A few minutes later, the tide had risen, causing the godwit to return to its usual place 150 yards away. This is one of the photos that was used in the documentation sent to the rare birds committee.
