Southern Elephant Seals

We sometimes saw large groups of Southern Elephant Seals lying together on the beach, seeming to be asleep relatively close to each other. Some of them would throw sand into the air. Others seemed to be having a bad dream and would roll over quickly. This often resulted in a collision with a neighboring seal, which would cause a commotion for about 30 seconds until everyone settled down again. These seals were at Saint Andrews on South Georgia Island.
