Gentoo Penguins

Krill figures high in the diets of many southern penguin species, but squid and small fish are equally important. These Gentoo Penguin parents share the feeding of nestlings for 20-37 days, after which the young form creches. Unlike other penguin species, the young seem to undergo a transition period to practice feeding on their own before becoming fully independent. They return to their colony for a few weeks to receive sporadic feeds from their parents before gradually lengthening their own foraging trips. These Gentoos were on the Falkland Islands.
