Hildebrandt's Francolin
The Hildebrandt's Francolins is a fairly chunky bird who is mottled below. At our Momela campsite, we saw them and heard their calls, which the Stevenson field guide describes as: "...a wooden crescendo of rapid notes tunk-unk-unk-unk with the first loudest. May continue for long periods breaking into an insane bout of screaming, often given in duet." That is a fairly accurate account of what I heard.
