Eastern Bluebird

This male Eastern Bluebird was perched on the roof of a nest box at Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge. Bluebird populations had dropped sharply during the middle of the last century. The population has partially recovered because of diligent efforts by people who put out bluebird boxes and monitor the activity in them.
