Collared Pratincole

Lake Manyara usually extends to near the road, but because of the drought, it was about a half a mile away. This Collared Pratincole was on the dried out lake bottom. Pratincoles have short legs and long wings, and their flight is tern-like. They are dark, but their rump is whitish. Sometimes they would be spooked, and more than a hundred would swirl around. They sometimes behaved like small dark shorebirds.
