Great Horned Owlet
A Great Horned Owlet was on the roof of the Mammoth Hot Springs visitors center at Yellowstone National Park. The owlet was learning to fly, and it tried to jump from the roof to a nearby pine tree. It missed its intended perch and tumbled to the ground right in front of us. After gathering its composure and staring at us for awhile, it flew to an area on the other side of the building and landed on a patch of grass near where some elk were grazing. You can see the grass in its feathers from when it fell.
