Hellevoetsluis, my hometown
My hometown, Hellevoetsluis has approximately 40 thousand inhabitants and is located on the Haringvliet. In the past, naval ships sailed from here to the North Sea with people on board such as Piet Hyen and Michiel de Ruyter to achieve victories against England or France. That did not always succeed. On 15-11-1971, the Haringvlietdam was opened. This lock separated the Haringvliet from the North Sea, the function of naval town has expired. Nevertheless, much can still be found from times gone by.
